Southern Gas Corridor was discussed at the Caspian Business Forum in New York
The second Caspian Business Forum was held at the Harvard Club of New York. The meeting was organized by the Caspian Political Center and the US Chamber of Commerce with the support of the Embassies of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The main focus at the forum was on the Southern Gas Corridor, designed to deliver natural gas from the Caspian region to Europe through Georgia and Turkey.
US Under Secretary of State for the Caucasus and Eastern Europe George Kent, who spoke at the forum, emphasized the importance of the Caspian region for the United States. He highlighted that the independence of the countries of this region and their liberation from the influence of external forces are important for America. In this regard, George Kent touched upon the implementation of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline and emphasized that it serves the interests of the countries of this region.
The US official expressed hope that following the completion of the Trans-Adriatic gas pipeline, which should become part of the Southern Gas Corridor, energy supplies will start from the Caspian region to the Balkans, which will strengthen European energy security.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammedyarov and SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov also spoke at the forum. Representatives of the Azerbaijan pointed out that as soon as the Italian segment of the SGC is built, Azerbaijan will be ready to supply natural gas to the countries of Southern Europe. Previously, the start of deliveries is scheduled for the end of 2020.
The second Caspian Business Forum was attended by representatives of more than 100 companies, banks and investment funds from the USA, Europe and other regions of the world, which indicates the growing interest of world business in the Caspian region.
It should be noted that the Final Statement of the 1st Caspian Economic Forum, held in the middle of last month in Turkmenistan, was adopted on September 9, 2019 as a document of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, and published in the official languages of the Organization.
